Marie Mae Mastenbrook was born at home in Wyckoff, New Jersey to her parents Cornelius Mastenbrook and Eva Mastenbrook (maiden name DeGroot). Marie was the second child of two girls. She attended Wyckoff schools and Ramsey High School in Ramsey, New Jersey. She and her first husband, John William Loeschhorn, raised their family in Wyckoff.

Marie was a member of the National Council on Alcoholism and devoted her life to helping alcoholics recover from alcoholism; she celebrated her fiftieth year of sobriety on April 2, 2000. Marie was an active member of the Morristown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a skilled seamstress who made drapes, clothing and some of the most creative Halloween costumes. She was devoted to animals and for many years was licensed by the State of New Jersey to rehabilitate wild animals that had been injured in accidents.

She moved to California in 1994 and lived her final years in Leisure World, Laguna Hills. She is preceded in death by her daughters, Patricia Loeschhorn in 1955, Florence Sherman in 1978 and her sister Gene Scheck in 1997. She is survived by her son, John Loeschhorn, of Irvine, California, her daughter, Elizabeth Patterson, of Chester, Vermont, and her two granddaughters, Laura Weaver of Newport Beach, California and Rose Colleran of Boston, Massachusetts.

Marie was a kind and generous person; she will be greatly missed by her family and friends. The family is asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society or some other organization that cares for animals.
